Decorating a beautiful table for the holidays is essential for creating the whole holiday atmosphere. Whether you are hosting a sit-down dinner, buffet, or casual gathering, having a lovely table is very simple and will wow your guests.

Create a Beautiful Centerpiece:
To embellish a fall table centerpiece, incorporate fall colored faux leaves purchased at a craft store along with natural pinecones and acorns. Be sure to clean the natural items using a paper towel and dry them out for a day or two on some newspaper. To add sparkle and shine, dab glue and glitter on the tips of the pinecones. Add faux gemstones to the acorns, popping out the centerpiece and adding some glue. You can glue all of the accents to a plain wreath or piece of Styrofoam.
Next: Natural Napkin Holders
Natural Napkin Holders:
You can add ribbon and a few leaves to the bottom of glittered pinecones and tie around napkins for a new twist to a napkin ring. The same can be done with faux leaves or gemmed acorns.
Next: Add Color & Shapes
Add Color & Shapes:
Adding color to your table setting can be an easy option. Purchase inexpensive or vintage goblets and salad plates, and add them along with your clear crystal and classic white china. Amber is a great color for fall, red for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and patriotic theme parties. Blue can be used for Hanukah and patriotic dinner parties, pink and green for the spring. Another way to add color is to use different colored table linens. You can use one color for the tablecloth and another color for the napkins. You can also purchase shaped luncheon plates. Leaves, hearts, and other shapes are available now at most craft stores or home goods stores. Without breaking the bank, these colorful stemware and plates will update your classic china, but allow you to keep the traditional style.
Next: Add Animals
Add Animals:
Adding little critters around your table setting will enhance the overall look of your centerpiece and place settings. Turkeys, dear, rabbits, birds, or whatever, will become conversation pieces when your guest join you at the dinner table. Pottery Barn has the cutest squirrel salt and pepper shakers.
Next: Creative Place Cards
Creative Place Cards:
If you are using place cards at your dinner table, there are a couple clever and fun ways to name your guests.
For Thanksgiving, purchase a couple of bags of cheap cookie cutters. Tie two together with some colorful ribbon and add a homemade label with the person’s name. Your guest can take them home and use them for the coming holidays. Labels can be made using decorative scrapbook paper sheets or card stock.
For Christmas purchase inexpensive ornaments that can stand and have a space to write. Using a permanent marker, write the guest’s name on the ornament. Place around the table settings for an added touch. Your guest will be delighted to have a gift from the hostess to take home.
Next: Create Height
Create Height:
To add some dimension and height to your table, place wooden blocks under the tablecloth. You can place a centerpiece or candlestick holders on the blocks and then when you serve the food, you can place some dishes on the blocks to make a stunning display.
