This book confirmed that I must not be the only one wild about oysters (although none of my California friends seem to be). Subtitled "a culinary celebration," this title is well deserved as author Joan Reardon has gathered a encyclopedic scope of oyster lore, facts, tidbits, trivia and quotes, not to mention 185 fabulous, creative oyster recipes that span the spectrums of style, ethnic background and culinary traditions.

Truly the essential guide to this tasty crustacean, this book is also one of those cookbooks you'll take to bed with you to read at night like a novel. More than a great culinary reference -- this is a must for any oyster lovers out there. You'd be hard pressed to find a more comprehensive collection of oyster recipes anywhere. Everything from the casual cuisine of the South in fried oysters and oyster Po' Boys to nouvelle dishes that make a bold visual statement as they tantalize our tastebuds. The author also includes wonderful wine recommendations to accompany most of the recipes.
