Feasts Afloat is a wonderful book for not only boating enthusiasts, but for campers and RVers as well. After all, the principles of cooking in a small space remain the same whether that space is on water or on wheels. Authors Jennifer Trainer Thompson and Elizabeth Wheeler have collectively logged more than 25,000 miles at sea. A quick perusal of their book's pages will let you immediately know that these ladies know how to live. This is not the typical quick fare made from ready mixes that one usually finds in book geared toward RVers and small space cooks. These are feasts and the authors enthusiastically embrace the freedom and party-like atmosphere that living on a boat (or RV) can embody. While the recipes are made simply with as little fuss as necessary, the results are spectacular. There are countless menus, many suitable for entertaining, both casually and more elegantly. There's plenty to keep grilling aficionados happy along with menus for moveable feasts like picnics or new England Clambakes. All in all, you'll find over 150 recipes with techniques for turning out spectacular results with limited equipment in the tiniest of spaces. You'll find recipes for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, appetizers, drinks and everything in between. Trainer and Wheeler acknowledge that the biggest asset a small space cook can have is flexibility. For that reason they include variations and substitutions with many recipes, as well as hints on everything from cleaning fish to buying provisions. The book is rounded out with their personal anecdotes of life on the seas as well as lots of gorgeous full color photography. For a sample recipe from this book, click on:
