To the uninitiated, gold plated coffee filters may seem an unnecessary
extravagance, but true coffee connoisseurs know the impact gold
plated coffee filters can make in the brewing a perfect pot of coffee.
Paper filters can leach flavor from coffee, while sometimes adding
unwanted flavor from the paper.
Gold plated filters, on the other hand, are like Switzerland -
they're neutral, creating a non-interacting brewing environment.
Unlike paper, nylon or mesh filters that are merely gold-toned,
Swissgold Coffee Filters will not absorb flavors or alter taste,
ensuring a pure coffee taste sensation.
For those who think that gold plated coffee filters are as ridiculous
as having "Diamonds on the Souls of Your Shoes," think again. Gold
plated coffee filters are actually more practical than their paper
cousins -- environmentally friendly, a gold coffee filter will provide
many years of use and eliminate the waste and expense of disposable
filters.
We like the Swissgold filters in particular for the way they were
engineered - allowing for maximum brewing contact between hot water
and grounds, as filter openings that hold back unwanted residue
while letting desirable flavor carriers (colloids) through. The
openings are 60 to 100 microns in size, and they are slightly wider
on the outside of the filter to prevent grounds from being wedged
in the openings and clogging them. This feature, combined with the
exceptionally flat surface of the gold plated foil, makes thorough
cleaning easier and prevents coffee oils from building up and turning
rancid. The filters are dishwasher safe but can also be easily cleaned
by rinsing under tap water.
Swissgold Coffee Filters are available in four sizes to fit most
standard drip coffee makers. The KF4 cone filter fits any 6-12 cup
capacity coffee maker that takes a # 4 paper filter, and it also
adapts to larger machines thanks to a clever adaptable collar ($19.99
suggested retail). The KF2 cone filter with collapsible handle is
for 2-6 cup capacity coffee makers, replacing # 2 paper filters
($16.99 suggested retail). Two additional models are basket-shaped,
with collapsible handles: the KF6 for 2-6 cup machines ($14.99 suggested
retail) and the KF10 for 6-12 cup coffee makers ($16.50 suggested
retail). Swissgold even makes a single serving gold plated filter
brewing system called Café
Uno (click
