When a recipe calls for "toasted" nuts or seeds (often times sesame seeds)
or even coconut, you can easily accomplish this task. On the stovetop,
over medium high heat, simply place your raw nuts or seeds into a non-stick
skillet. The skillet should be dry and ungreased. Stir frequently and
keep a close eye on the nuts. It will only take a minute or before they
start turning brown. When they are toasted to your liking, remove from
heat and use.
You can, alternately, toast nuts on a non-greased baking sheet in
a 400° oven. Stir them after a minute or so. Watch carefully, it
will only take a couple of minutes total.
