Mustard

A condiment made from ground or powdered seeds of mustard plants. Prepared mustard, what the average person puts on their Hot Dog, comes in a variety of flavors and textures.

Whole mustard seeds are occasionally used for spice or seasoning, as well as for preparing your own blends of mustard at home. The seeds come in various colors (most typically yellow and brown) which have varying degrees of flavor intensity or "hotness."

You can find whole mustard seeds, inexpensively, at Indian Spice Shops, or (more expensively) at spice or gourmet shops. Dry mustard powder is easily available at any grocery store.

It's easy to make home made mustards. You can find a variety of mustard recipes in the Sauces Section.
