You can also use plain old ketchup to clean the copper bottoms of pots and pans. Just slather it on and wait a few minutes, then wipe clean with paper towel. Rinse with water and dry immediately.

Put food at different heights on a buffet table by placing phone books on table prior to covering with tablecloths. The books make great risers for a pretty presentation.

I keep a large supply of dried vegetables on hand. It saves time shopping, and also saves money as I cook for one, and otherwise have to throw away a lot of spoiled veggies.

I buy ground beef in bulk and prepare for several meals in advance. I cook 5 or 6 lbs at a time and drain. I add taco seasoning, sloppy joe sauce, and leave some plain and freeze in vacuum sealer bags. I also add seasoning to the ground beef before I shape into patties and freeze. Saves lots of time and mess camping and on nights when time is short.

Instead of buying the more expensive beef stew meat, purchase a chuck roast on sale and cut it up yourself.

Instead of using harsh commercial cleaners to clean your copper pots and pans, use salt and vinegar with a soft rag for an eco-friendly alternative. Some old methods are still the best and more cost effective.

No mess buttered bowls! Instead of dealing with greasy fingers or wasting wax or paper towels, next time you finish a stick of butter -- don’t throw the paper away. Instead, fold in half and store in a zip lock bag in the fridge. Next time you need to prepare a buttered bowl or pan, use the buttered paper.

Before storing fine china, place a coffee filter between each plate, bowl etc. Napkins also work well.

Clean your dishes, porcelain sink and dish rag at the same time by adding 1/4 cup of bleach to a sink full of hot water. After rinsing your dishes extra well, leave the water and rag in the sink. In about an hour, your sink is sparkling clean and you have a germ free rag. Don’t forget to wear rubber gloves.
