Tips: Money Saving Tips

  • Freeze left-over coffee in cubes. When you want a cup of coffee, heat a few cubes in a cup in the microwave. Especially like to do this with flavored coffees. Doris, Decatur, IL new (Added: 1-Jan-2004)
  • The plastic lids that come with Hershey's chocolate syrup are the exact size to cover a can of condensed milk. That way, you can save what's left if you use canned milk rather than fresh milk in recipes. Barb, Milwaukee (Added: 1-Mar-2004)
  • For a different look to sweet breads like pumpkin bread, Bannana bread, bake in 1 lb coffee cans. grease and flour just like you would for bread pan. Connie Sterling (Added: 10-Mar-2004)

  • an inexpensive way to wash fruits and vegetables and even poultry and pork is to place peeled food in a bowl of cold water with 1/2cup of white vinegar, but do not put meat and veggies in the same bowl!   • Don't toss out those small empty creamers and milkers after you've added the contents to your coffee or tea! Wash them out and keep them to use as moulds for your next batch of homemade chocolates. With a little squeeze on the bottom of the creamer, your chocolate creation will pop right out!   • I use salt to clean my coffee cup and coffee pot. Just wet the item to be cleaned and pour in some salt. Clean by rubbing with a wet dish rag or damp paper towel.
