Tips: Leftovers Tips

  • When I buy a new box of baking soda, I put the old one in the fridge (for odor control) and take the one from the fridge and put it in our emptied RV toilet tank with a gallon of water and then when we're going down the road the soda and water mixture sloshes around helping to clean and deodorize the tank. Susan in Michigan new (Added: 8-Oct-2005)
  • To save fresh ginger root for a long time: peel the root, put into a lidded jar, cover with dry sherry. Put in refrigerator after cutting into smaller chunks. The ginger will stay fresh and you'll have ginger flavored sherry to use in cooking. Beverly, Connecticut new (Added: 9-Feb-2005)
  • Some recipes call for half an onion. We sometimes lose the other half because it was forgotten in the frige and dries out. Chop and freeze the other half right away, and it's saved and ready for the next recipe. Florence, Mtn. Home, ID new (Added: 9-Sep-2005)
