Tips: Leftovers Tips

  • When using bell peppers or any other vegetable that begins to get soft and mushy, cut up in whatever shape required then freeze in small portions or in a ziploc bag for further usage. Catherine, St. Lucia, West Indies new (Added: 28-Feb-2006)
  • Store whole fresh ginger root in a plastic bag in the freezer. Grate as much as you need for a recipe. It grates just fine when frozen! Irene, British Columbia, Canada new (Added: 3-Jul-2005)
  • Instead of using ice cubes in wine, use frozen grapes. They don't dilute the wine as they melt. Ohb0b, Seattle new (Added: 30-Apr-2005)
  • Homemade baby food for infants or toddlers: After making a Big pot of home made soup.. blend it in a food processor and freeze in ice cube trays. They make the perfect serving size for babies and you can use as many as you need without defrosting it all. After they are frozen you can place them in a container and start all over again till your container is full! There you have your veggies and protein all in one and ready to go. Sabrina, Edmonton, Alberta new (Added: 31-Mar-2005)
  • When I go out in my RV I usually go for a long period of time. I cook up meals at home and put them in Healthy Choice empty containers and seal them with my seal-a-meal and then when I am out in the RV I can just pop them in the microwave and I have a nice meal -- meat, vegatables and potatoes etc. RVGranny, South Carolina new (Added: 31-Mar-2005)
  • Save and freeze any leftover meats from dinners during the week. They are great when added to a home made chili. We use chicken, beef and pork, then add hamburge. It makes a wonderful chunky textured chili..our family loves it!! Kathy, Litchfield NH new (Added: 5-Mar-2005)
  • Macaroni and Potato Cakes - Take leftover Mashed Potatos and left over baked or boxed macaroni and cheese, mix together to make patties, and bread with egg and bread crumbs like a chicken cutlet. Fry in pan until golden brown. This makes a very tasty side dish, sort of like a fritter. Michele, Philadelphia, PA new (Added: 6-Jul-2004)
  • For grilled cheese lovers -- Instead of butter on the bread use a ittle mayo. Mayo has a higher burn resistance. Delicious! Bobbi, Summerville, SC new (Added: 6-Jun-2006)
  • Make your own homemade TV dinners for the freezer using leftovers from dinner - the 3 section reusable plastic containers work well. A protein, vegetable & starch complete a healthy meal. If all 3 sections aren't full, wait for leftovers from another meal to complete the frozen dinner container. To create a delicious "new" dinner, pop frozen sections out onto a dinner plate and reheat in the microwave. NEVER reheat in plastic containers. Lori Thibideau, Wellness Consultant Rotonda West, FL new (Added: 7-Mar-2006)
