This is the ultimate gift book for foodies, covering everything related to food and eating from 1900 till 2000. Gorgeously produced with full color graphics and photography, the book takes us on a journey of discovery as well as sentimental remembrance.
Depending on your age, all your favorite childhood "comfort" foods are represented. The book is loaded with pictures, period advertising, food trivia and recipes typical of the time periods being covered. (Did you know that Ronald Reagan one did ads for V-8 Juice or that Baby Ruth Bars sold for 5 cents in the 1920's?) You'll also be able to cook up nostalgic meals of a given era, in that book is liberally peppered with recipes popular at the time. Like the brands of food and appliance manufacturers that are also profiled in the book, some recipes are classics that are still familiar to us today, others have faded into relative obscurity. This book started as a series of food history articles for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, but the sum is much larger than its pieces. This is a book that will be treasured -- its pages lovingly flipped through from time to time, its classic recipes brought out for special occasions. If you're a foodie -- especially a retro food buff -- this is the mother of coffee table books. Sample Recipes -- Check Out This Book! |
