Add these nuts to a green salad to turn it into an event.
They also make tasty party snacks. You might also want
to package some in pretty containers to give as gifts.
2 C raw walnuts or pecans
1 C sugar
1/2 C water
salt
Preheat oven to 300°F. Butter a large baking pan.
Combine nuts, sugar and water in a heavy saucepan over medium heat.
Cook and stir until mixture crystallizes, about 15 minutes. Spread
pecans on the prepared baking pan and sprinkle with salt. Bake for
15 minutes. Turn with an oiled metal spatula and bake an additional
15 minutes. Cool and store in an airtight container.
