Here is a perfect gift for college students living away from home the first time, especially vegetarians. Containing over 150 recipes for quick, cheap and delicious vegetarian meals, the instructions are given in simple and easy-to-understand language (a handful of this, a splash of that) so even the kitchen impaired can turn out great, nutritious meals.
The book covers everything from breakfasts, salads, soups, sandwiches, main dishes, side dishes, desserts, drinks and party foods. There are special chapters for pasta and Italian dishes and Mexican dishes as well as ultra easy main courses and microwave meals that can be made in minutes. Most of the recipes (with the exception of party food) serve 1 or 2 and all of the recipes keep the typical college student's economic status (or lack thereof) in mind. Dede Hall also doesn't forget that students will be cooking in microwave and toaster ovens or with simple equipment and without benefit of endless kitchen gadgets.
At the beginning of the book the author covers the absolute basics for complete cooking novices such as necessary tools and equipment, a basic shopping list and kitchen hints to make everything go smoothly. So don't let the students in your life starve, pack this in their duffel bags instead.
