Fill your Christmas candy tins or bowls with this golden, nutty toffee. USing your microwave, it takes just minutes. |
| Ingredients: |
1 1/3 cup sugar 1 cup softened butter 2 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon dark corn syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips 2/3 cups chopped walnuts |
| Instructions: | In a large microwave safe bowl, mix sugar, butter, water and corn syrup. Microwave on high 4 minutes. Stirring every 2 minutes, heat 6-8 minutes longer until thickened and gold in color. Add vanilla; stir well. Pour mixture into 9x13 dish. Spread chocolate chips over hot toffee. Sprinkle with nuts. Cool completely. Break into pieces. |

Works fine for me
Written by: Phillip Carson19 December 2008 |
| I've made this three or four times and it's been fine. The butter does seem to separate during the process, but if you stir per the directions, then stir right before pouring it works out fine. We don't have the patience to let it cool long enough for the chocolate to set so we leave the chocolate off and just get yummy toffee. One other note, make sure the bowl is much larger than the initial ingredients as they will foam considerably during the heating. |

failure

| This recipe failed for me. The butter separated from the sugar and never made a nice candy syrup. The end result was wasted ingredients. |
