Actually, it's always the time of year to celebrate romance, but this is the time that society, at the prodding of greeting card and chocolate manufacturers, sets aside especially for such amorous festivities. If you are happily in love, Valentine's Day can be a joyous occasion, your heart literally floating on air as you and your beloved celebrate the eleation felt by merely being in each other's presence (OK, I'm probably exaggerating a bit here). If you're not in love, this day can mean anything from the ultimate in indifference (forgetting about it entirely); to the pits of depression (think of Meg Ryan's character in When Harry Met Sally in the scene when she gets dumped by her boyfriend). In my more angst ridden youth, many was the V-Day I felt I would scream if I saw yet one more nauseatingly sweet, hand holding, neck nuzzling couple. Thankfully, gone are the depression filled Valentine's Days of my youth. Before we get into the content for this channel, I have to put in the disclaimer that romantically, I historically don't do well with any holiday, up to and including Ground Hog's Day; so you might imagine how I fare with one dedicated to the subject. So, Fabulous Foodies, I'm not even going to attempt to give you romantic advice this Valentine's Day. I'll be the first to admit I'm clueless when it comes to the art of love. My best observation is a quote from Jackson Browne: "People speak of love, don't know what they're thinking of." I'll leave romantic advice to the experts like our friends at LoveStories.com. I'll help with what I do know, and that's cooking. I can make a mean romantic meal. Does this insure true love and everlasting happiness? Probably not.
