Barbecues, Smoking & Cookouts

father's daySummer is filled with traditional times to cook outdoors: Memorial Day, Father's Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day. But why limit yourself? If you've got the grill and the weather is right, every night can be a barbecue.

watermelon carvingWhether it's a propane grill in the back yard, a charcoal grill at a local park or beach, or a hearty meal prepared over a campfire, we've got some some fabulous cookout menu suggestions. As always, we've remembered to include a vegetarian menu option and each menu includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options.

Needless to say, the menu suggestions below are rough guidelines of what you might want to serve. Mix and match to suit your own taste. For even more recipe suggestions, click here and check out our Recipe Archives.

Casual Burger Barbecue

There is nothing like a grear burger grilled over an open flame. The National Cattleman's Beef Association shared some of their best burger recipes with us. We've rounded out the rest of this menu with simple, easy to prepare foods for a hassle free cookout.

Cookout for a Crowd

barbecue recipesDo you need to serve a big crowd? Kebabs are a good barbecue choice. Everything can be marinated ahead of time and the skewers assembled, then all you have to do when it comes time to eat is grill and serve.

Start a Day Ahead and Smoke!

America's barbecue king, Famous Dave Anderson, shared the main course recipe for this menu with us. Dave says there is no shortcut to good barbecue, but it's well worth the time and effort. Dave's Twice Smoked Ham is so good, Dave says it's "orgasmic." Start smoking your ham early (Dave gives instructions for the indirect method) and have a spectacular dinner!

Seafood Barbecue
Our seafood entree recipe was given to us by none other than Suzanne Somers. Many people don't realize what a fabulous cook Suzanne is, but anyone who has tried her Somercising health and fitness plans know. Her Crispy Mesquite Salmon is a wonderful way to grill fish.

Vegetarian Grill

cookout recipesThe Grilled Veggie Stacks are one of my favorite vegetarian entrees. Marinated fresh vegetables are stacked with cheese, skewered with a branch of fresh rosemary and served over pasta. It's easy to grill and prepare the stacks in advance, then just heat to melt the cheese and serve when it's time to eat.
