SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, USA -- "Legendary Holidays" returns to The Westin La Cantera Resort this December and brings Texas legends to life with a host of carolers, an authentic Texas storyteller and a flurry of the only guaranteed snow to be found in South Texas this season. Now in its tenth year (2008), "Legendary Holidays" is  free to the public.

Starting at sundown (approx 5:30 pm) at the resort's historic El Fortin Lawn, the experience takes participants on a walking tour through Texas legend and lore, beginning with a ceremonial bell ringing where majestic limestone arches frame the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

The ringing of a mission bell has long held significance throughout Texas and Mexico history to announce meal times, warn of oncoming raids and attacks and the closure of mission doors for the night.

Authentic cowboy storyteller "Makin' Dust" leads guests on a walking tour to the daily winter lighting of the legendary fire pit - all the while recounting legends of Texas holiday lore and tales. The procession then winds through a nature setting to the Plaza San Saba, which is lit and warmed by several chimeneas. More music and local legends ensue, including the story of a legendary snowfall many moons ago. With a grand flourish, a snow flurry begins falling around the guests, bringing to life the biggest holiday legend in San Antonio. Throughout the 30-minute program, local carolers sing songs of the season and invite participation from the group.

Additional activities surrounding the event include:

  • Holiday ornament making for children at the Enchanted Rock Kids Club.
  • Dine at Mrs. Claus' Buffet in Brannon's restaurant for a traditional holiday dinner.
  • Relax in the spacious Tio's Lobby to enjoy complimentary cookies and cider and the resort's holiday decorations.
  • Stay in Plaza San Saba and enjoy the warmth and light from the chimeneas and the last remnants of a legendary snowfall.
  • Visit Steinheimer's to enjoy the view over drinks and gaze up at the treasure map painted on the ceiling.
  • Enjoy the best in fine dining at Francesca's at Sunset with its spectacular views.
