Cleanup and Mess Prevention Tips

  • To make fruit salad in a bag: Add a can of fruit cocktail, a can of pineapple chunks (both can of fruits not drained), a cup of coconut, a box of instant vanilla pudding, and a banana to a plastic bag and seal. Squeeze the bag and serve the salad right from the bag. This is even better if chilled.

  • I always hated it when I would climb into my camper and find that the journey to the campgrounds made the paper towel roll unwind. So I got this great tip off an RV show. Take a 2 liter bottle and rinse it out well. Cut off the mouth and bottom section and slice down the center. It easily wraps around the towels and keeps them from unraveling during your trips. Also if you have no camper and maybe just a pop-up or a canopy, use a bungee cord to hold the paper towel roll out of the way. Thread the bungee cord through the roll and hook both ends to a bar under the canopy. You can easily tear off sheets and it stays dry beneath the shelter of the canopy.

  • An easy and neat way to fill a pastry bag is to stand it upright in a tall glass (a half pint pub beer glass works well) and fold the edges of the bag around the rim of the glass. Fill the bag, then gather up the edge before decorating.
