Anyone who has ever visited Minnesota's fabulous Gunflint Lodge Resort will surely be clamoring for this book. Chef Ron Berg serves up some mighty fine cuisine in the north woods of Minnesota and many of his favorite recipes are contained within its pages. But the Gunflint Lodge Cookbook is much more than lots of great recipes. It's a "reader's cookbook" organized by seasons. There are introductory essays and fascinating pieces about life at the lodge, feeding hungry visitors and running a gourmet kitchen far from civilization. Fisherman will find this cookbook of particular interest. There's an extensive fish Cookery: "A Compendium of how to care for, prepare and enjoy the fish you catch." Some of the finest fishing anywhere exists in Minnesota's Boundary Waters Country, just outside Gunflint's back door. Believe me, the folks at Gunflint know fish! While fish is covered extensively, this cookbook is comprehensive. You'll find great recipes for appetizers, chicken, beef, pork, soups, side dishes, seasonings, vegetables, sauces and desserts. There's truly something for everyone. Follow this link to the Fabulous Foods article on Gunflint Lodge: Haute Cuisine in the Wilds of Minnesota (includes some sample recipes). Sample Recipes: |
