Review: If you're a beginner who wants to learn to cook from the basics up, there is no better teacher in print than Mark Bittman. If you know how to cook but frequently find yourself at a creative loss for what to make for dinner each night, Mark Bittman has lots of delicious, nutritious, quick and easy to prepare recipes for you. No matter what your level of cooking experience, you are bound to pick up some handy kitchen tips and wisdom from reading Bittman's books, especially his How to Cook Everything series.
Each small “no-nonsense -- to the point” volume provides even beginner cooks with all the instructional information they need to turn out inspired dishes that are simple to prepare with limited ingredients (after all, Bittman is also a popular cooking columnist - The Minimalist - and the author of one of my all time favorite books - The Minimalist Cooks at Home <LINK>).
This book is perfect for busy people who occasionally like to entertain - without making a career out of it or who are looking for quick and easy weekend meals that are a tad more special than typical every night weeknight fare.
As with all of Bittman's books, the recipes are infinitely flexible - he always gives lots of ways to customize, substitute and improvise the recipes as you see fit, while still helping you to achieve fabulous final results.

Throughout the book you'll find tips for shopping, preparing and cooking the recipes, illustrations to take the guesswork out of trickier cooking techniques, a glossary of tools, ingredients, and techniques, and a chart highlighting measurement conversions, substitutions and handy kitchen tips.

You'll also find menu plans that can help you plan casual get-togethers, parties, and special occasion meals, including those suitable for major holidays.

Chapters in this book include: Breakfast and Brunch; Salads and Soups; Pasta and Grains; Fish; Poultry; Meat; Beans and Vegetables; Desserts; Easy Weekend Menus; Recipes Good for Weekdays.
