Review:

"I got skinny on fat," claims Suzanne Somers. It sounds too good to be true--a weight-loss program that lets you "eat incredible, rich foods in abundant portions while the unwanted pounds effortlessly melt away." But Suzanne and the thousands of people who have had success on her "Sommercizing" program say it's the easiest way to lose and maintain weight loss going.

Somers believes that diets and deprivation do not help people lose weight in the long-term. In Get Skinny on Fabulous Foods, she explains the generally low carbohydrate, food-combining plan: eliminate "funky foods" such as sugar and white flour; eat fruits alone on an empty stomach; eat proteins and fats with vegetables and without carbohydrates; eat carbohydrates with vegetables and without fat.

Seven simple rules to weight loss that still allow a tremendous amount of food choices, choices that are a far cry from traditional "diet" food. This book is the follow-up to Suzanne's wildly successful Eat Great, Lose Weight, and contains new updates and insights that she's gained since the first book came out.

There's also a wonderful forward by Diana Schwarzbein, M.D. that puts to rest those fears about a low carb diet being unhealthy. While it may go against conventional wisdom, Dr. Schwarzbein, a renowned endocrinologist, offers compelling evidence of why Somercizing makes sound sense, as well as an explanation, in layman's terms, of why it works.

A lot of the media has unfairly grouped Suzanne's program with more extreme low carb plans. In fact, it is quite sensible and balanced, allowing for fruits pastas and other carbohydrate rich food. Remember, other than a few exceptions, it's not what you eat, or how much you eat, it's what you combine with it.

Suzanne's recipes are outstanding. There are 16 pages of gorgeous full color photos to inspire you and over 130 recipes for everything from breakfast to desserts and everything in between. This book and its precursor, Eat Great, Lose Weight, are two of my favorite, most used cookbooks, year round, whether I'm focusing on weight loss or not. I can't give any higher recommendation than that!
