When I first saw Hearthware's Nu Wave Oven, I thought it would be yet another seldom used, space hogging useless gadget. After all, I have an oven, what do I need this for, I reasoned. Which is why I am surprised to report that I actually love this product and use it constantly. While it may not look anything like a conventional oven, the Nu-Wave oven can do everything a regular oven can, only better. The Nu-Wave Oven uses Infrared and Convection technology. Food cooks in about half the time, using about 70% less energy, but yields the same results in browning and texture that you'd get with a conventional oven (microwaves can't do that). The Nu-Wave oven also gives off significantly less heat, so your kitchen won't heat up on hot summer days just because you feel like baking. Those who entertain or regularly cook for big crowds will appreciate the convenience of having a second oven around. The appliance is ultra easy to use and cleaning is a snap -- it all comes apart and, with the exception of the top heating/fan element, all the parts can be popped into the dishwasher. The Nu-Wave oven is light weight, but it does take up a fair amount of counter space (about the only negative thing I can say about it). I usually store mine in the hall closet when not in use, although since I like to use it so frequently, this is somewhat inconvenient. |
