3-D Floral Bouquet Greeting Card

These colorful cards are so much fun to make. You are literally arranging flowers -- paper flowers -- to make a gorgeous greeting card bouquet. No two come out exactly alike!

This design is a good example of using a tool for something other than for what it was intended. We made the vase from a rubber stamp of a Snow Globe (or perhaps a crystal ball). Turned upside-down, it made a perfect round vase to hold our paper flower arrangement.

Start with old floral greetings cards or floral printed scrapbook paper (you need two or more copies of each individual flower). Take scissors and cut out individual flowers and leaves (this is good busy work to do while watching television). When it comes to assemble the card, you can arrange you cutouts to your pleasing, then use pop dot foam adhesives to layer leaves and petals over your base to give the bouquet a three-dimensional quality.

These cards are great for all kinds of celebrations, such as birthdays, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day or just to let someone special know you are thinking about them.

Supplies:

blank card and envelope
small piece of vellum paper
snow globe rubber stamp
ink for stamping vase
embossing powder and heat tool (optional)
ribbon or small bow
background paper
coordinating border stickers
paper flower cutouts (see notes above)
adhesive of choice (glue stick, Xyron machine, etc.)
pop dots foam adhesives
small dragonfly or butterfly sticker (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1.
Make the Vase element:
We used a large rubber stamp of a snow globe. We stamped it on vellum (in this example we used black ink. We also embossed our image with like color embossing powder to give it a shiny raised surface, but you can skip this step if you like. We then carefully cut out the stamped image, turned it upside down and applied a small bow to the center.

In the photo above, we also added some sticker strips, like used on the border of the card, to the neck of the vase under the bow. In the card above, we simply used a larger bow alone.

Step 2.
Apply background paper to the front of the card and border stickers, as shown above.

Assemble the card components. Pick out a bunch of flower cutouts that look good together, so you are ready to start arranging.

Attach the vase to the card. We used a Xyron machine, you could also use spray adhesive. If you use a glue stick , just put adhesive under the part with the ribbon or the dark printed parts, otherwise it will show through the translucent vellum paper.

Have some pop dots at the ready.

Step 3.
Begin arranging your flowers by placing a flat base layer down with regular adhesives (as opposed to pop dots). You will begin to layer upon this in the next step, but right now you are created the underlying base layer of flowers.

Step 4.
Look at your base and decide where you will layer other flowers and/or individual petals and leaves. Cut out the necessary parts and pieces and attach pop dots to the backs of these elements.

FRUGAL TIP: You can use pieces of the backing as well as the dots when using foam backed adhesives (as shown above) -- no waste!


Step 5. Start building three dimensional layers by sticking the pop-dotted elements over the base flowers. Continue adding and layering until you are happy with the finished look of the bouquet.	Step 6. If desired, add a small dragonfly or butterfly sticker.
