FEATURED BOOK

bodyfoods for busy people

Bodyfoods for Busy People
By Jane Clarke

We all know we should take the time to eat healthier, but all too often life gets in the way. In this book nutritionist and cook Jane Clarke tackles the problem head on with practical tips, advice and recipes that you can put into practice every day to make your life (and your family's) healthier and more vibrant.

The book starts with ten easy steps to make your life healthier, followed by practical strategies and easy to make recipes to help put those steps into practice. Clarke will also teach you how to eat out at restaurants and stay healthy and even turn your home into a spa for a 48 hour mini-rejeuvenation.

There are over 100 simple to prepare delicious recipes that will take you through every part of the day (and even give you snacks for when you're on the move). Best of all, I liked the chapters on treating conditions, complaints and illness with proper nutrition. Included are treatments for: beating headaches and migraines; coping with jet lag and hangovers; tackling sleep problems and deficiency; coping with chronic fatigue; combating colds, flu, and sinusitis; improving skin complaints and delaying aging; dealing with IBS and digestive disorders; coping with premenstrual syndrome; improving fertility and conception; nurturing your body through pregnancy; correcting hormonal and thyroid imbalances; boosting weight loss and avoiding weight gain; controlling high and low blood pressure; attacking high cholesterol levels; stress busters.

HEALTHY KITCHEN TIPS
  • Bill Muir from Michigan writes: "I have two sets of measuring cups and could never seem to find any of them. I solved the problem by putting all the cups together in a one-gallon zip lock freezer bag. Works great."
  • Dan from Franmingham, MA suggests: " Place a damp paper towel under your cutting board to keep it from moving."
  • Diana from San Francisco writes: "When I wash vegetables (especially leafy spinach or Swiss chard) or fruit, I fill the kitchen sink with cold water and add baking soda. I move the vegetables around in the water and then let them soak for about 3 minutes. Then rinse. This procedure has all the dirt sink to the bottom, then rinse again and all is ready to use. Fruit will look much brighter. "
  • Dee from British Columbia, Canada writes: "To keep white potatoes white, add a bit of white vinegar to the cooking water. It can't be tasted."
  • Danielle from Sydney, Australia says: " Before squeezing the juice out of a lemon, roll it on the bench first then cut it in half and then squeeze it , this makes all the juice come out faster."
