Author Notes: Here is the retro classic Southern fried bread accompaniment to most any and all meals.
Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups white cornmeal
1/4 cup sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons green onion, grated or finely diced
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup milk or buttermilk
Instructions:

Makes 18 Hush Puppies

Mix the first five ingredients together; set aside.

Combine onion, egg, and milk or buttermilk and stir. Add to dry ingredients and mix well. Drop by spoonfuls into hot fat, about 375ºF and 1 1/2 inches deep. Turn once or cook until hush puppy floats.
