When my business partner first saw this book on my desk he exclaimed - no flour, no sugarâ€â€Âyeah right. Despite his sarcasm I had an open mind and in reality a diet of no flour and no sugar is really quite manageable when you think of it in term of all the foods you can have. It's certainly more versatile than the typical low carb program - after all fruits, beans, legumes and even starchy vegetables are still in bounds. That leaves a lot of menu possibilities. Author Peter Gott, MD wanted to simplify the weight loss process and it doesn't get any simpler than this plan - essentially if it says flour or sugar (or corn syrup, honey, etc.) on the label , then it's off limits. Of course Dr. Gott has further tips for success and lots of advice on healthy eating and how to make the most out of this healthy way of eating that will have you naturally cutting calories (without having to actually count them) and losing weight. Especially handy are the chapters on satisfying sugar and carb cravings without flour or sugar. There are also sample menu plans which you can choose to follow or do your own thing, along with lots of really good recipes - recipes that don't taste like diet foods. Several of the recipes have become staples around our house, especially when we need a quick, healthy meal. The plan is simple, it works and the variety of allowed foods is so large, it's not too difficult to stay on. |
