Author Notes: This recipe was given to us by Stephen Willey, owner of the National Hotel in Jamestown, California. The hotel is a fabulous place to stay while exploring Tuolumne County in California's historic Mother Lode country. It was also our favorite place to eat in the county. Wine (and especially zinfandel) lovers will especially appreciate the wide variety of local wines on the hotel's extensive list.

This old-fashioned cocktail is perfect for brunch or anytime. The original Ramos Gin Fizz was invented in the 1880s by Henry C. Ramos, in his bar at New Orleans' Meyer's Restaurant. It is sometimes also known as a New Orleans Gin Fizz.

Because of the extensive ingredients and the time it takes to make, this drink can be hard to find today. Most upper end cocktail bars will have a version. In addition to the Jamestown Hotel, we like those made at Commander's Palace in Orleans or at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.

Look for orange flower water at well stocked liquor and bar suppliers or in middle eastern grocery stores.

See the travel links below for more restaurants, recipes and attractions of Tuolumne County, gateway to Yosemite National Park.

1 ounces of sweet & sour mix
1 ounces of half & half cream

pinch of nutmeg
Instructions: Blend all ingredients together until smooth and top with a light topping of ground nutmeg.
