These walnuts have kick from spices and cayenne.

Did you know that walnuts are one of the healthiest foods you can eat?  Walnuts are the only nut that contain a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids. No other nut even comes close.  Eating a handful of walnuts every day is one small step you can take to protect your heart.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration even approved a qualified health claim for walnuts, the first ever for a whole food.  Here walnuts pair with chicken strips for a great snack or appetizer.

Ingredients:

2 cups walnut halves
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon walnut oil or canola oil

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Spread the walnuts on a baking sheet and roast about 5 minutes until golden brown.

Place the sugar, salt, garlic powder, cumin, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl and stir to combine. Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the nuts and stir to coat with the oil. Add the seasoning mixture and toss until the nuts are coated. Cool on a paper towel.
