Curry and cumin add exotic flavor to these toasted walnuts.

Did you know that walnuts are one of the healthiest foods you can eat?  Walnuts are the only nut that contain a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids. No other nut even comes close.  Eating a handful of walnuts every day is one small step you can take to protect your heart.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration even approved a qualified health claim for walnuts, the first ever for a whole food.  Here walnuts pair with chicken strips for a great snack or appetizer.

Ingredients: 4 cups walnut halves and pieces
2 egg whites, lightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Instructions:

Coat a large, shallow, baking pan with non-stick vegetable spray. Mix egg whites with spices. Stir in walnuts and coat thoroughly. Spread in prepared pan. Bake in 350°F oven for 15-18 minutes, until dry and crisp. Cool completely before serving.

Microwave Directions:
Prepare ingredients as above. Spread prepared walnuts in microwave-proof dish. Microwave on high in 4 or 5 batches for 2-3 minutes each, until dry and crisp. Cool completely.
